Prayers for Peace in Salt Lake City Print E-mail
 Salt Lake City

Scott Parker, from the Public Affairs department of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints offered a prayer in which he reminisced on the trials of the first members of the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints as they made their journey to Salt Lake looking for peace in order to practice their faith.

Karen Gauthier, representing the Christian Science community and Lynne Heygster, a chaplain intern for St. Mark’s Hospital and a member of the Salt Lake Center for Spiritual Living, also offered representative prayers. Rev. Michael Stovall of the Unification Church concluded the “Prayers for Peace” by reading the words of Rev. Sun Myung Moon in which he said that unless there was peace in the family there could be no peace in the community, nation or world.

We concluded by greeting everyone and as we were parting, we heard in the distance a 21-gun salute followed by 6 helicopters flying in formation above us reminding us of the need for peace.
