PASTORS UNITE IN THEIR COMMITMENT FOR PEACE

DURING INTERFAITH PRAYER BREAKFAST IN CHICAGO

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

The International Day of Peace was a key feature in the ACLC Pastors’ Prayer Breakfast on Tuesday, September 16 at Greater Green MB Church on the south side of Chicago. The 112 participating pastors and guests arrived from throughout metropolitan Chicago and represented a broad range of denominations. The host pastors, Dr. James and Dr. Jacqueline Porter, graciously welcomed everyone to their beautiful church.

The program began with a musical prelude and introductory remarks from Dr. A Harold White of True Light Church Baptist who serves as the ACLC Co-Chairman. Dr. Porter formally greeted all the participants and a wonderful breakfast prepared by members of the church was served.

After the meal, Brother Thomas Muhammad of the Nation of Islam recited the “ACLC Statement of Purpose” which defines the essential commitments of living as “one family under God”. Three powerful representative prayers for peace were then offered for the city and state, nation and world. All the participants united their hearts and minds with the spirit and content of the prayers. The keynote message delivered by Dr. Samuel Day of the Holy Bethel FBH Church emphasized the responsibility of faith leaders to make good decisions in using God’s blessings to build His Kingdom and world of peace.

Rev. David Rendel, ACLC District Chairman, summarized the significance of the International Day of Peace and encouraged everyone to promote it in their churches. He also announced an upcoming Global Peace Festival event in Chicago during October which further advances the objectives of the International Day of Peace Initiative. Following the benediction, the participants exhibited their empowered spirits as they joyfully lingered for more fellowship before returning to their important missions.
