I do not want the peace which passeth understanding. I want the understanding which bringeth peace.

Ambassadors for Peace

Ambassadors for Peace

The Ambassadors for Peace Initiative is a worldwide network of leaders dedicated to transcending racial, religious and ethnic boundaries to promote a world of genuine peace. Launched in 2001, Ambassadors for Peace has become the world's largest and most diverse network of peace leaders. They come from all walks of life representing all races, religions, nationality and cultures, and commit themselves to:

  • Stand on the common ground of universal moral principles, committed to promoting reconciliation, overcoming barriers, and building peace.
  • Form a global network of leaders representing the religious, racial, and ethnic diversity of the human family, as well as all disciplines of human endeavor.
  • Participate in peace initiatives and programs that promote reconciliation and cooperation beyond traditional boundaries of religion, race, ethnicity, and nationality.
  • Promote and practice the ethic of “living for the sake of others” as the guiding principle for building world peace and a global community.

The network of Ambassadors for Peace includes a wide variety of people, such as diplomats, clergy, civic leaders, artists, athletes, students, scholars, lawyers, health professionals, businessmen, journalists, and current and former heads of state.

The Ambassadors for Peace principles can be summarized as follows:

  1. God - We are one human family created by God.
  2. Spirituality - The highest qualities of the human being are spiritual and moral.
  3. Family - The family is the "school of love and peace."
  4. Service - Living for the sake of others
  5. Unity - Peace comes through cooperation beyond the boundaries of ethnicity, religion, and nationality.

Seeking Peace with Labyrinths
Written by Gillian Corcoran
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 18:00

Seeking peace within and peace in the world, modern-day pilgrims see themselves and others anew by walking the purposefully meandering paths of labyrinths.

To the uninitiated and skeptical, a labyrinth isn’t much to look at—just a long, winding path filling a circle laid out on a flat surface. Watching an individual walk slowly along that path with downcast gaze gives little indication that something transformative may be happening. Even when the person exits the labyrinth, there may be little sign of change or difference.

Ambassadors for Peace in Prince George’s County, Maryland, initiated the first of a series of seminars with community leaders on February 25, 2006. Held in a home in Greenbelt, MD, a suburb of Washington, D.C., the seminar included readings of quotes by Rev. Sun Myung Moon on “Bridge Building and Peacemaking,” responses from the community leaders, discussion groups, and a panel on “Rolling Up Our Sleeves,” ie. how to apply the principles of “bridge building.” This program was a forum providing Ambassadors for Peace an opportunity to meet each other, exchange ideas based on a common theme, and enhance their efforts by inviting other Ambassadors for Peace to work with them in their peace-making initiatives.

Thomas Jefferson

In 1776 Thomas Jefferson declared: "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." Has American culture of the past 230 years been based on a religious myth? During this period, America has demonstrated an unprecedented (although far from perfect) example of altruism, sacrificing its blood and treasure on a global level to defend liberty and oppose tyranny.

The Journey of an Ambassador for Peace: Drawing Virtue from Tragedy in Pakistan
Written by Dr. Raymond Brogan

Map of Pakistan (courtesy of www.cia.gov)

I was appointed as an Ambassador for Peace on December 18, 2005. Less than a week later, I was on my way to Lahore, Pakistan on a peace mission. I had been planning for months to go to Pakistan but I had not originally planned a peace mission. I only planned on visiting an old friend. I had visited Lahore fifteen years ago and stayed at the YMCA. The young man running the YMCA hostel at the time, Samuel “Bobby” Pervez, became my good friend. Bobby has been inviting me to Pakistan for many years now.
